![]() stars as Chance Harper, a man whose everyday life is a string of weirdness and coincidence. Strange Luck is right up there with some of the best shows I've seen, but wasn't really given a real shot by the network. The show had an X-Files kind of vibe and I think Mulder was even referenced in an episode. You've never seen so many crazy coincidences in one show before. I love how Chance uses scratch tickets to pay his bill at The Blue Plate Diner where he hangs out. And the episodes that build a mythology for the show surrounding Chance's family are some of my favorites. The third episode, Last Chance, has one of the best endings I've seen for a TV episode too! The rest of the cast is cool too, including Pamela Gidley [from The Pretender and CSI], Frances Fisher [from Law & Order, The X-Files, Titus, The Outer Limits, ER, Grey's Anatomy and Gone In 60 Seconds] and Cynthia Martells [from ER, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Veritas: The Quest and Gattaca]. For such a short lived show, there were some cool guest stars too, including Alexia Robinson ![]() [from Veronica's Closet, CSI Miami and Total Recall], Bill Dow [from Stargate SG-1, TWO, Kyle Xy and Dead Like Me], Jon Gries [from The Pretender, The Twilight Zone, Quantum Leap, Las Vegas, Lost, Get Shorty, Men In Black and Monster Squad], Jensen Daggett [from China Beach, The Single Guy and Get Real], George Eads [from ER and CSI], and Gregory Itzin [from Voyagers!, Street Hawk, Night Court, Eerie Indiana, Star Trek: DS9, The Practice, 24, Teen Wolf, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and Evolution]. As I recall, in the show's original run it was pre-empted and moved around a lot. That's never a good sign for a show's stability and it wasn't surprising that it got axed. ![]() it's more a depiction of our present day than most TV now. From the first episode, it was obviously not a show that would last long. It wasn't about quality or anything, the show's great. It's just that the show is about the corruption of the media for the profit of the rich and greedy network execs. I doubt that many of the real network executives thought too much of that, even though it's basically true. The great Matt Frewer [from Doctor Doctor, Star Trek The Next Generation, Eerie Indiana, Gargoyles, The Outer Limits, PSI Factor, Taken, Eureka, The Stand, the new Dawn Of The Dead and Desperation] stars as Max Headroom and reporter/videographer Edison Carter. Carter is one of the big stars on the megolithic Network 23. Edison Carter is trusted by the masses to show them the truth in this cyberpunk world. Even uncovering conspiracies and plots put into motion by his very own network. As a result of an attempt on his life, there was a digital copy made of him. This copy took the name Max Headroom [Matt Frewer in makeup, the show was before computer graphics] and lives in the TV version of cyberspace. The rest of the cast is cool too, including the very hot Amanda Pays ![]() [from The Flash and The X-Files], Jeffrey Tambor [from The Twilight Zone, Hill Street Blues, The Practice, 20 Good Years and Hellboy], Chris Young [from Friends, The Runestone and The Great Outdoors], William Morgan Sheppard [from MacGyver, Star Trek: TNG, Quantum Leap, Babylon 5, Gargoyles, American Gothic, Timecop, Needful Things and Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark], Jere Burns [from Street Hawk, Remington Steele, Dear John and Las Vegas]. Like Star Trek, Max Headroom gave us a look at technology we'd all be using every day. The Max Headroom logo links to a cool fan site. Here are some other cool links:

![]() He could be a pilot, flying a heart transplant to a hospital, just as easy as he could be the surgeon who does the operation. He's on the run from The Centre and his friend and ex keeper Sydney [Patrick Bauchau from Earth 2, Kindred The Embraced, Justice League, The Dead Zone, Alias and 24], and Miss Parker [the very hot Andrea Parker from Married With Children, Seinfeld, ER, Coach and Less Than Perfect]. The Centre is an evil organization like The Shop from Stephen King's books, or Phoenix from John Doe. Jerod pretends his way through life, helping people who've been wronged, and searching for his past. He also learns more about the world he was kept from as a child, with each episode giving him a toy or some food to discover. The Pretender is phenominal, and very similar to Nowhere Man, Two, Quantum Leap and John Doe. Miss Parker is especially hot, while being very cold and mean a lot of the time. The rest of the cast is cool too, including Jon Gries [from Strange Luck, The Twilight Zone, Quantum Leap, Las Vegas, Lost, Get Shorty, Men In Black and Monster Squad],![]() Ryan Merriman [from Veritas: The Quest, Taken, Smallville, Halloween Resurrection and Final Destination 3], Richard Marcus [from St. Elsewhere, Space Rangers, 24 and Tremors], Alex Wexo [from The Invisible Man, Alias, The Unit and Dexter], James Denton [from Sliders, Dark Skies, Threat Matrix and Face Off], Harve Presnell [from The Outer Limits, Andy Barker P.I., Saving Private Ryan and Face Off] and Pamela Gidley [from MacGyver, Strange Luck and CSI]. Unfortunately, the last season or so was pretty lame, I hate seeing a great show run out of steam. TNT has made some TV movies since the series was axed, but they were just ok. The show was mostly about whatever Jarod was pretending to be that week, but my favorite stuff was all the mythology of The Centre, Miss Parker's parents and Jarod's family. ![]() For me, the best part of the show is the monologue and first skit before the guests. Even on a night where I'm not interested in the guests, I'll still watch the first half of the show. I've been watching pretty regularly since before Jay Leno took over for Johnny Carson. My favorite guests include The Tonight Show Mad Scientist David Willey, animal trainers Julie Scardina and Jarod Miller, Richard Simmons [for how he and Jay get along], any celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld who are friends of Jay's and any actors from new horror or sci-fi movies. Some other guests had especially memorable appearances, like comedian Bobcat Goldthwait setting his seat on fire and being banned from the show, or Joaquin Phoenix when he was so wasted Jay said he should come in person next time he's on. My favorite gag on the show is definitely Headlines, it never fails to make me laugh.![]() The announcer for the show used to be Ed Hall, but he was replaced by John Melendez. I think Ed Hall was a better announcer, and was a lot better in the skits he was involved in. I like when there's a comedian as third guest a lot more than musical guests, mostly because there's rarely anyone I listen to appearing on the show. I also liked it when Jay did more characters, like Iron Jay, Mr. Brain and Beyondo. No matter who's on, the show's usually still cool. Letterman hasn't really been any good since he left NBC, so Jay's the best option at 12:35 here on the east coast. Plus, between Jay, Conan and Jon Stewart you can hear about what's going on in a light, funny way without the harshness of the news these days. ![]() It seems that almost any actor I like has done at least one Outer Limits episode. There are so many great episodes, some of my favorites include The New Breed with Richard Thomas [Stephen King's IT, Tales From The Crypt, Nightmares And Dreamscapes, The Practice and Just Cause] and a mutating Peter Outerbridge [ReGenesis, The Commish, Millennium, Time Shifters and 24], Caught In The Act featuring a very hot performance and nude scene by Alyssa Milano [Commando, Who's The Boss, Spin City, Embrace Of The Vampire and Fear], the time bending tale A Stitch In Time with Michelle Forbes [Star Trek: TNG, Brimstone, 24, Battlestar Galactica, Prison Break and Kalifornia] and Amanda Plummer [Dark Skies, Needful Things, Pulp Fiction and The Prophecy], Afterlife with Clancy Brown [Justice League, Earth 2, Lost, The Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers and Pathfinder] mutated by the government, Dead Man's Switch with James LeGros [Sleeper Cell, Heat, Phantasm II, Near Dark, Point Break and Enemy Of The State],![]() the android sequel Mary 25 with Michael Shanks [Stargate SG-1], Sophia Shinas [The Crow] and Britt McKillip [Dead Like Me], the mindbender Nightmare with Brandy Ledford [The George Carlin Show, The Invisible Man, Andromeda and Demolition Man], Steven Bauer [Scarface and Raising Cain] and Maurice Dean Wint [Psi Factor and Cube], the story of Artificial Intelligence out of control The Human Operators with Jack Noseworthy [Event Horizon, Idle Hands, U-571 and Undercover Brother] and Malcolm McDowell [Entourage, Heroes, A Clockwork Orange and Star Trek: Generations], the devolution tale Descent with Leland Orser [Eerie Indiana, Star Trek: DS9, The Pretender, ER, Seven, Alien: Resurrection and Saving Private Ryan] and Benita Ha [Street Cents, Jake 2.0, The 6th Day and Antitrust], the great government time travel project Deja Vu with Kevin Nealon [Saturday Night Live, Still Standing and Weeds], Terri Hawkes [Earth: Final Conflict and Cube Zero] and Ronny Cox [Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: TNG, Time Trax, Beverly Hills Cop, Robocop and Total Recall],![]() the time twister Decompression with CCH Pounder [Gargoyles, The X-Files, ER, Justice League, End Of Days and Demon Knight] and Bruce Boxleitner [Scarecrow And Mrs. King, Babylon 5 and Tron], the story of technology out of control The Grid with D.B. Sweeney [Fire In The Sky, Roomates, Spawn, Harsh Realm, Strange Luck and Jericho], Jessica Steen [Earth 2, Supernatural, Trial & Error and Armageddon], Brent Stait [Andromeda] and Colleen Rennison [Stargate SG-1], the android tale Mona Lisa with Laura Harris [Dead Like Me, The Dead Zone, 24 and The Faculty] and Rachel Ticotin [Lost, Critical Condition, Total Recall and Con Air] , the identity bender Think Like A Dinosaur with Enrico Colantoni [The Wrong Guy and Galaxy Quest], the time travel story Time To Time with Ingrid Kavelaars [Jeremiah] and Grace Park [Enterprise] and the tale of cybernetic life The Human Factor with Zack Ward [Titus, Freddy vs. Jason, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Transformers] and Robert Duncan McNeill [Star Trek: Voyager]. Those are just the standout episodes for me, the rest are cool too. If you're a sci-fi fan in any way, you can't go wrong watching The Outer Limits. The show is based on an old series which I didn't like as much as the classic Twilight Zone series.
