Well, when I first heard about this new version of the Addams Family, I wasn't very excited. The New Munsters came to mind, and that sucked. Well, once I checked out the show I was very pleasantly surprised! It's a lot closer to the classic Addams Family than The New Munsters, that's for sure. Glenn Taranto does an awesome Gomez, and Ellie Harvie [from Stargate SG-1 and The Sixth Day] is pretty smokin [goth chicks rule] as Morticia. John DeSantis [from Thirteen Ghosts] plays the towering butler Lurch, while Michael Roberds does a perfect homage to the original Fester Jackie Coogan. The rest of the cast is great too. I still recommend the classic, but the New Addams Family is another cool take on Charles Addams' characters. The original Gomez Addams, John Astin [from Night Court and Eerie Indiana] even appeared on the show. There were only 65 episodes made, and I heard it was canceled even though the ratings were good because each episode was expensive. Still, I'd rather have high production value than more episodes made cheaper. As I write this, the show is currently being rerun on Showcase. So check it out if you get the chance. That 70's Show is one show I can never pass by, I can't think of one episode I'm tired of seeing. It's about a group of friends who mostly just hang out, get a buzz on and tease and play jokes on each other. Every one of the kids are great, but my favorites are the ultra-hot Jackie [Mila Kunis] and the constantly paranoid Hyde [Danny Masterson, from Face Off and Puff, Puff, Pass]. The adults are great on the show too, there's Eric's Parents Red [Kurtwood Smith from Broken Arrow and Star Trek: Voyager among many others] and Kitty [Debra Jo Rupp from Friends], Bob [Don Stark from Timecop], both Howard Hesseman and Tim Reid from WKRP in Cincinnati had characters, and my favorite Leo the Hippie [legendary godfather of stoners Tommy Chong from The George Carlin Show, Up In Smoke, Still Smokin, Half Baked and Evil Bong]. The show has ended now, and aside from some cast changes at the end I think the whole run was really cool. The recasting of Eric's sister Laurie from the awesome Lisa Robin Kelly to somebody else really sucked and the addition of Josh Meyers as Randy was pretty bad, but even those couldn't hurt the show too much. The cast no longer being kids near the end was the real thing for me that said the show was finished. Fez especially was outgrowing the part by the time it was over. Still, you can't go wrong with pretty much any episode. So if you really want a laugh, just watch That 70's Show! Babylon 5 is epic sci-fi at its best! Unlike most shows, it wasn't written a show or even a season at a time. Nope, the whole thing was plotted out before the first show was shot. So some obscure reference or prediction in one season is probably referring to something a couple of seasons down the line. It's the coolest way I've seen to do a sci-fi show! For a show with a basic premise similar to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, it couldn't be more different. The only thing is you really have to watch the show in order without missing too many episodes to get the full B5 effect. Everyone in the cast is really great, with Garibaldi [Jerry Doyle], Ivanova [the very hot Claudia Christian], G'Kar [Andreas Katsulas], and Londo [Peter Jurasik] being my favorites. What I really admire about the show is there aren't any western or victorian episodes, or whatever other crutches other shows use. They stick to sci-fi all the way through. Crappy episodes like that are one of my major pet peeves about trek. Plus B5 has lots of non-humanoid and even some non-oxygen breathing aliens. That's another advantage it has over trek. And by following an epic story, B5 pretty much avoids the standard formulas you'll find in a lot of other sci-fi [ahem, trek]. Don't get me wrong, I'm a trek fan, but B5 represents a real [and awesome!] alternative. Trust me, if you get the chance, check out Babylon 5! And now it's out on DVD, so there's no excuse not to!
