Rescue Me is a kickass, different and edgy show you definitely shouldn't miss! To me, it's a lot similar in tone to The Sopranos or The Black Donnellys, but set in a New York firehouse. It stars standup comic Denis Leary [from Demolition Man, Judgment Night and Ice Age] as Tommy Gavin, a fireman who's also an alcoholic, foul mouthed asshole. He and the rest of his crew are just trying to cope with getting through every day, and the downward spiral of their lives. Tommy sees ghosts, and it's hard to tell if their real or it's just him. Plus his drinking is wrecking his life in a dozen different ways. There's no black and white here, every character is really complex, with good and bad qualities. The rest of the cast includes Tommy's ex-wife Janet [the super hot Andrea Roth from The Outer Limits, The Pretender, The Agency and CSI], Jimmy Keefe the ghost of Tommy's cousin [James McCaffrey], Jimmy's widow Sheila [Callie Thorne from The Wire], Tommy's cousin Johnny [Dean Winters], Tommy's Daughter Colleen [Natalie Distler - article], Tommy's father [Charles Durning from Tootsie and The Hudsucker Proxy], Tommy's crazy uncle Teddy [Lenny Clarke from The John Larroquette Show], and the guys at the firehouse, Chief Jerry Reilly [Jack McGee from Backdraft, Space Rangers, Crash and The Prophecy 3], Kenny 'Lou' Shea [John Scurti], The Probie Mike Silletti [Mike Lombardi], Sean Garrity [Steven Pasquale], and Franco Rivera [Daniel Sunjata from Law & Order SVU]. Rescue Me has great music, awesome writing and excellent acting. It stands out from most other TV as a really great and original show. The opening theme song is "C'mon C'mon" by The Von Bondies The first episode was premiered to the top brass of the New York Fire Department, and the firefighters received DVDs containing the first three episodes before it was shown on FX for the first time.

Brimstone is yet another great show that wasn't given the chance it deserved. It stars Peter Horton as Ezekiel Stone, a cop who killed his wife's rapist. Once he died, his soul was sent to hell for his sin. Then there's this big jailbreak and 113 evil souls escape from the devil's clutches and go back to earth to cause chaos and destruction. The Devil himself [John Glover from Smallville, The Twilight Zone, Tales From The Crypt, Get Real and In The Mouth Of Madness] offers Ezekiel his freedom if he goes to earth and sends the 113 back to hell. They can only be hurt by each other and if their eyes [windows to the soul] are destroyed, they go back to hell. The same concept was used excellently in the great horror movie Tales From The Crypt Presents Demon Knight! Plus, the longer someone has been in hell, the stronger they are. So the real long time inmates are very powerful. And not all of them are heartless and bloodthirsty, so the job's not as easy for Ezekiel when he feels pity for his prey. Brimstone is phenominally acted and written, and it's better than a lot of other stuff out there. John Glover is especially excellent as Satan, he reminds me a lot of The Devil Claude Rains played in the 1946 movie Angel on My Shoulder [watch the whole movie online!]. If you like Brimstone, you have to see that old black and white classic! Other cool cast members include Stacy Haiduk [from Kindred and Seaquest], Albert Hall [from 24 season 3], Scott Lawrence [from Get Real, Tour of Duty and Murphy Brown], Lori Petty [from Point Break], and Teri Polo [from The Arrival and The Outer Limits]. Brimstone never devolved into formula tv, and every episode I saw was really great. The show has been blatantly ripped off to create the steaming pile of crap called The Collector. Another crime is that this fantastic show hasn't been released on DVD. If ever a show deserved a release, it's Brimstone. This new Dr. Who series was the best new show of the year from the 1994/95 season! I'll admit, a british accent can be like fingernails on a chalkboard for me, so a british show has to be really amazing for me to even like it. The whole first [or 27th] season of Dr. Who is some of the best tv I've seen! Christopher Eccleston [from Heroes, eXistenZ, Gone in 60 Seconds and 28 Days Later] is amazing as the very cool Doctor! He really makes the whole show, and he's one of my favorite tv characters of all time! The show is equally about his travelling companion Rose Tyler [Billie Piper], who's also perfect on the show. The show starts off with a trip to see the last hours of planet earth, then through the season they go on to cool time paradox stuff, a few earth invasions, the return of the evil Daleks, and the death of the doctor. I only give out that plot point so you'll know what to expect. The main thing I love about the show is Christopher Eccleston's excellent acting. I like David Tennant's Doctor but Eccleston is still the best. As a self contained season though, you'll be hard pressed to find better TV! This version of the Dr. Who show is so much better than any of the old stuff. Just like I can't stand original Star Trek because of it's cheesiness, the old Dr. Who stuff mostly sucks. Although all the history comes into play in the new series, but not that you have to watch that to understand the new stuff. Dr. Who stays hardcore sci-fi all the way, and lots of death and destruction follow the Tardis wherever it goes. I know Christopher Eccleston has moved on, but his version of The Doctor is so cool and it is a time travel show. So I hope he makes an appearance in the future. I think it would make a great episode! Definitely watch this show or you're really missing out! Prison Break is definitely great television, and one of my favorite shows! It's about Michael Scofield [Wentworth Miller from Underworld], a guy who gets himself sent to prison so he can break his brother out. His brother Lincoln Burrows [Dominic Purcell from John Doe, Equilibrium and Blade Trinity] was set up by a high level government conspiracy. The coolest thing is that Michael Scofield designed the prison. Plus he didn't go in empty handed, he has the floorplan disguised in his tattoos. And he's done meticulous planning and research you'll need to see to believe! And the characters on the show are really great too! I especially like Warden Pope [Stacy Keach from Titus, The Outer Limits, Escape From L.A. and Up In Smoke] and inmate John Abruzzi [Peter Stormare from Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Armageddon and Constantine]. Both are not on the current season but it's still cool. Every one I've seen so far makes me wish I didn't have to wait for the next one. The rest of the cast is fantastic too, including the very hot Sarah Wayne Callies as the prison doctor, Wade Williams as the rotten Captain Bellick, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper [from 7 Days, Brimstone and Harsh Realm], Robin Tunney, Marshall Allman [from Hostage], Paul Adelstein, Muse Watson, Frank Grillo and Danny McCarthy. The first season was the best one so far, and even though the show's lost a bit of it's coolness now that the cast is into another situation, it's still one of the best shows on TV! Plus, it's just great to see Dominic Purcell working on something as cool as John Doe was. That's two mind blowing shows he's been on. Don't miss Prison Break, or be sorry later that you missed out. Dark Skies is yet another really great show that was killed after only one season. The really unique thing about Dark Skies is that it is set in the 60's. Aliens are among us, and have an evil agenda. The alien hive mind [called The Hive] has plans that include historical events like JFK's assassination, cloning and genetic experiments and the Beatles appearing on Ed Sullivan among other things. Dark Skies was really on to something with the unique twists in the show. Eric Close [from Now and Again, Taken and Without A Trace] stars as John Loengard, a man who's trying his best to figure out everything about them and their plans so he can stop them. There's a super secret government agency called Majestic 12 that is sometimes with him and sometimes against him. J.T. Walsh [from Good Morning Vietnam, Backdraft, Needful Things, Breakdown and The Negotiator] is great as Capt. Frank Bach, the sleazy head of Majestic 12. The rest of the cast is cool too, including the very hot Megan Ward [from Trancers II and III], Tim Kelleher [from Star Trek: TNG, 24, Criminal Minds and The Negotiator], Conor O'Farrell [from 24, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Early Edition and Stir Of Echoes], and even the very hot Jeri Ryan [from Star Trek: Voyager, Boston Public, The Flash and Time Trax] joined the cast for the second half of the season [Interview].
